Alarms to AS 3786, placed to warn the people sleeping in the bedrooms. If your home's building approval was on or after 1 January 1995, they must be hard-wired to 240V with a back-up battery. Older homes can use replaceable batteries, and on a change of ownership need mains or 10-year sealed battery alarms within 6 months.
Interconnection is required in new homes approved from 1 May 2014. It is not retrospective for older homes, but the fire service recommends it, and on two storeys it means an alarm downstairs wakes the people upstairs.
