Your Edwardstown electrician, from nearby Vale Park

I'm Marcus, and I'll be upfront — Edwardstown is a proper trip from my Vale Park base, the better part of 25-30 minutes down through the city and out along South Road. It's not a suburb I'm around the corner from, but I get out there for switchboard work, mains upgrades and fault finding on a regular basis, and it's worth the drive.

Edwardstown is a working suburb — solid 1950s and 60s brick family homes sitting alongside light industrial premises and small businesses along the South Road and Cross Road corridor. That mix shows up in the electrical work: houses of that era were built with basic single-phase supply and a switchboard sized for a much simpler household, and decades on they're often running consumer mains that were never designed for ducted air conditioning, an electric or heat pump hot water system and everything else a modern home runs at once. On the commercial side, I get calls from small workshops and premises needing power upgraded to run equipment properly.

Whether it's a residential mains and switchboard upgrade or power for a small Edwardstown business, I look at what's actually there before quoting anything, and every job is done to AS/NZS 3000. Call 0468 008 822 to talk through what your Edwardstown property needs.

What Edwardstown homes and businesses actually call me for

Edwardstown's brick family homes and light-commercial premises bring this kind of work:

A recent job in Edwardstown

In July 2026 I finished a full consumer mains upgrade and meter relocation on Cross Road in Edwardstown, after an earlier inspection had turned up cotton-insulated wiring in the switchboard. The property originally had its metering and switchboard tucked away in the laundry — not unusual for a home of this era, but not compliant or convenient by today's standard.

The fix meant relocating the metering to a new outdoor surface-mount panel at the front of the property, running new 16mm² consumer mains from the SA Power Networks point of supply to that new panel, then running further 16mm² sub-mains back through to the laundry to feed the existing subboard location. I drove a new earth stake at the front metering panel and established the MEN bond properly, fitted a compliant meter isolator and main switch at the front panel, and replaced the laundry subboard with a new 18-way Hager enclosure carrying individual RCBOs on every circuit. It's a bigger job than most switchboard upgrades, but it's the kind of thorough fix an older Edwardstown property with original 1950s-60s wiring often genuinely needs.

Would like to say it’s a small job, but this is just a complementary one after completing a board upgrade… (6K views)

Emergency electrician in Edwardstown

Edwardstown's older 1950s-60s brick homes commonly carry undersized consumer mains and original switchboards, which can fail under the load of modern appliances and air conditioning. Light-commercial premises along South Road can also lose power without warning when older wiring or equipment faults.

Edwardstown electrical questions

My Edwardstown home still has cotton-insulated wiring — what does that mean?

Cotton-insulated wiring is an older cable type common in homes from this era. It can become brittle over time and often comes with an undersized switchboard and no safety switch. A proper inspection will tell you whether a targeted upgrade or a full rewire is the right approach.

Do you handle light-commercial electrical work in Edwardstown?

Yes. I do power upgrades, three-phase installations and general electrical work for small workshops and businesses along the South Road and Cross Road corridor.

Can you relocate my meter and switchboard out of the laundry?

Yes, this is common on older Edwardstown homes where the metering was originally installed inside. I can relocate it to a compliant outdoor position and run new mains and sub-mains as part of the job.

Do you do rental compliance checks in Edwardstown?

Yes, I carry out electrical safety inspections and written reports against the SA minimum housing standard, useful for landlords with Edwardstown's older rental stock.
