I'm Marcus, the owner-operator behind Amped Up Electrical Adelaide. Semaphore is a genuine drive from my Vale Park base — twenty-five to thirty minutes out to the coast — not the closest suburb I cover, but a part of Adelaide I get out to regularly.
Semaphore is a seaside suburb built around the Esplanade and the jetty, with Semaphore Road's shops and cafes running back from the beach. Housing here ranges from older heritage cottages close to the water to unit and townhouse blocks a street or two back, with some properties used as holiday rentals given the location.
Being right on the coast changes the electrical work more than most suburbs. Salt air is hard on switchboard enclosures and any exposed metalwork, so corrosion turns up more often here than inland. A lot of the older unit blocks also share a single meter box servicing several properties, with older rewireable fuses still in place on some of the units — and quite a few of these coastal boards carry asbestos-hazard labelling, which changes how carefully I need to work around them.
Given the coastal conditions and the mix of housing, this is the work that comes up most in Semaphore:
In August I fitted a digital time switch to the hot water circuit of a unit off Military Road, in a small block sharing a single meter box across several properties. This unit had its own small surface-mounted enclosure feeding the hot water and a main isolator, and the backing board carried an asbestos-hazard caution label, so the whole job was mounted off the existing enclosure without any drilling or cutting into the panel itself. The other units in the same block were still on a mix of older rewireable fuses, which is a common sight on this stretch of coast.
The point of the timer was to shift the hot water system's draw into the middle of the day, lining up with the customer's solar plan's free-usage window — a straightforward job, but one that needed a careful read of an older coastal board before touching anything. On the Esplanade in Semaphore South I've also handled more everyday work, including supplying and installing a freestanding oven and rangehood for a kitchen upgrade.
Every installation is owner-operated by Marcus. Clean work, quality components, compliant installations.
Marcus films real jobs and callouts on the tools — no actors, no stock footage. This is what the work actually looks like.
Semaphore's coastal switchboards take a beating from salt air, and corrosion inside an old enclosure — or a shared meter box feeding several units — can fail without much warning. If the power's out, a safety switch won't reset, or something smells hot, that's an emergency call — not a wait-till-Monday job.

I personally handle every job from quote to completion. Licensed electrician on every job — never handed off. When you call, you speak to me. When I arrive in Semaphore, it's me doing the work.

Yes. I work around a labelled panel rather than through it — mounting off the existing enclosure and avoiding any drilling or cutting into the board itself.
Yes — fitting a digital time switch to a hot water circuit so it draws power during a solar plan's free window is regular work for me on the coast.
In most cases, yes. I check how the existing enclosure and isolator are set up for your unit before quoting, since shared meter arrangements are common in Semaphore's older blocks.
They can still be in service, but they don't offer the protection a modern safety switch does. I'd recommend having a board like that looked at, particularly on a property this close to the coast.
Semaphore sits on the coast next to Port Adelaide. Suburbs I also cover nearby:
